The five massifs of the Pays d’Aubagne et de l’Etoile will definitely delight the hiking lovers:

The Sainte Baume massif (le massif de la Sainte Baume):

Limestone massif between the Var and the Bouches du Rhône the Sainte Baume goes from Tourves to Aubagne.
It offers a unique north hillside in Provence because very watered and covered with a very wet vegetation consisted of leafy and box tree. 
Cliffs shelter St. Mary Magdalene's cave, important site of pilgrimage.The summit peaks at 1148 meters, height similar to that of the Grand Luberon and the Sainte Victoire.

The Etoile range (La chaîne de l’Etoile):
West from Aubagne and Roquevaire, calcareous massif where important rupestral zones extend
Its flora represents a big interest with endemic and rare species.
It has a surface of 9241 ha. and peaks in 800 meters.

The Regagnas range and the Mount Olympe (La chaîne du Regagnas et le Mont Olympe):
Located in the North of Auriol and east of Saint-Zacharie, between the massif of Sainte Baume and that of Sainte Victoire, the height is 815 meters at its peak.
It is the western ending of the Massif of the Aurélien, situated in the Var.
This range presents an important ecological interest, in particular for its rupestral biotopes which shelter nestings of big birds of prey.

The Saint-Cyr range (La chaîne de Saint Cyr):
Located in the South of Aubagne, its peak is the mount Carpiagne (646 meters)

The mount Aurélien (Le mont Aurélien):
Located in the Var, in the northeast of saint Zacharie, it peaks at 879 meters and extends over more than 300 ha.
It enables to have a view on both the Sainte Victoire and the Sainte Baume.

How to access the massifs :

  • The Etoile range and the Garlaban massif : from Aubagne, Cadolive, Peypin, Roquevaire and Saint-Savournin,
  • The Regagnas range: from the villages of Auriol, Belcodène, La Bouilladisse and Saint-Zacharie,
  • The Saint-Cyr range: from Aubagne and la Penne-sur-Huveaune,
  • The Sainte Baume massif: from Auriol, Cuges-les-Pins and Saint-Zacharie,
  • The mount Aurélien: from Saint-Zacharie.

Our advice: the 12 municipalities of the Pays d’Aubagne et de l’Étoile have manificient municipal forests. Feel free to discover them!

  • La Coueste natural space - Espillères district,
  • River bank of the Huveaune, rue Elzéard Rougier,
  • Jean Moulin Park, avenue du 21 Août 1944.

Auriol: Les Encanaux,
Cuges-les-Pins: Site of Saint Antoine's Chapel,
La Penne-sur-Huveaune: municipal woods,
Saint-Zacharie: Nayes spring (Sources de Nayes).
